About Arkus

Arkuš is a unique and evolving platform dedicated to providing in-depth, analytical perspectives on Belarusian culture. Our mission is to explore cultural trends, examining them as phenomena rooted in the past yet highly relevant and influential today.

By translating analytical research and academic knowledge into accessible journalistic formats, we aim to create a cultural hub that delves deep into the evolution, impact, and significance of various cultural aspects of Belarus.

Our Vision: experimental platform with thoughtfully curated content

At Arkuš, we envision a space where cultural analysis goes beyond mere descriptions, offering insightful examinations that resonate with both local and international audiences. We aspire to be an experimental platform where content is thoughtfully curated around specific themes over a defined period (monthly, quarterly, or biannually).

This approach allows us to focus our efforts and produce comprehensive, thematic explorations of Belarusian culture. As Arkuš is still in development, we are open to new ideas and innovative content formats. The Arkuš community’s contributions and creative input will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our platform.

Current Topic: Belarusian Culture During Emigration

For the next three months, we are focusing on the theme „Belarusian Culture During Emigration.“ We aim to explore how migration has influenced and transformed Belarusian culture, examining the experiences of Belarusian communities abroad and the cultural exchanges that arise from migration.

We are interested in writing about the waves of Belarusian emigration to other countries and how Belarusian emigrants have contributed to cultural creation while abroad. Our goal is to create a series of articles that showcase the development of Belarusian culture during different stages of emigration and how these historical stages have impacted Belarusian culture today.

Showcase historical stages of emigration

These stages include:

  • Journalistic products might explore how some Belarusian authors and artists were assimilated into other cultures (e.g., Marc Chagall, who is often associated with French art) and what this means for Belarusian cultural identity.
  • Should we reclaim these figures as part of our cultural heritage, and if so, how best can we do this?
  • We will also look at how Belarusian art is represented in various parts of the world, such as in museums, and what can be done to increase its visibility and recognition.

Who Should Apply

We are seeking history enthusiasts, art historians, and journalists with an interest in this topic and a desire to contribute. This is a voluntary role, so a high level of motivation and commitment is essential.

Requirements for New Journalists:

  • Strong Writing Ability
  • Excellent command of Belarusian and/or proficiency in English for writing to our international audience.
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Analytical and Research Skills
  • Teamwork
  • Commitment and Motivation: As this is a volunteer role, a strong commitment to our mission and high motivation are crucial. Ability to meet deadlines and contribute consistently to the platform is essential.
