Help to belarusian refugees in Ukraine. Report 15.01.21

Since the beginning of December, we have managed to collect 2834,54 euro. Coverage of temporary accommodation was provided to 26 Belarusian refugees. Residual balance: €243,80.

Dear friends!

A little more than a month has passed since the launch of our project “Help to Belarusian refugees”, and we would like to present our first report.

Since the beginning of December, we have managed to collect 2834,54 euro.

Apart from private donations, our project has also received transfers from the „Breathe Freedom“ initiative as well as from the Belarusian communities NRW and Hamburg.

By 15.01.2021 the following help has been provided:

  • Payments for temporary housing: 2254 euro.
  • Purchase of food certificates: 95,74 euro.
  • Coverage of urgent medical expenses: 195 euro.

Coverage of temporary accommodation was provided to 26 Belarusian refugees, including two families with children.

The length of stay ranged from a few days to a month. In two cases, partial rent for a flat was provided. For the remaining refugees, we paid for their temporary accommodation in a hostel.

We provided food certificates to 8 refugees
Urgent medical expenses were covered for 2 refugees

The following were paid for: dental services, medical examinations with a medical report. The latter were justified by worsening condition after the hunger strike during the detention in Belarus and by the consequences of the beatings that led to the fracture.

We confirmed the readiness to pay for urgent medical expenses for one more refugee.

We owe the first success of this project primarily to our Ukrainian partner, the Free Belarus Center, an independent NGO. Every application for help is thoroughly verified by him. This includes not only verification of the documents confirming repressions, but also interviews by phone and face-to-face meetings. In „borderline“ cases, our working group is consulted. The decision to grant assistance in each case is made jointly by us.

We are grateful to our partner not only for transparent communication and excellent work, but also for the human resource (personal communication, attention, support) that each person who turns to them for help receives.
